My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

"Hurricane" by Ms Mr

Really like the sultry yet in control sound and video here. Hope to hear more from this new band from NY.

'Candy Cigarettes' by Owen Cohen

Is that Johnny Marr on guitar?  No, but this new stuff from NYC certainly carries some spirit and surrealness of that era.

Check out both songs on the link http://owencohen.bandcamp.com/

'I Can Change' by LCD Soundsystem

Instantly liked this song - it starts out quick and sounds like a cross between Eurythmics and Snow Patrol. Love the sound from NYC band. Unfortunately, it looks like they broke up in 2011.

My only complaint is that the song is too short and life is too short.

'Come on Eileen' by Dexys Midnight Runners

This tune evokes nice memories from the past when my life was simpler and full of wonderment.

Enjoy this oldie but goodie. It will probably be the only song by a band named after a drug high.

'Born of Frustration' by James

Something magical about this one.  A truely great song and my favorite by the band.

I listen to and float away to another place that I can't describe.

'Laid' by James

I'm not sure there's anything more to say about this tune by James.  This is probably their most popular song but not my fav - I'll post that soon.  Enjoy the live performance below.

BTW, they're another great band from UK and have released more records than you thought.
