My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Little America' by REM

I've always been a big fan of this under played and enigmatic tune. It's actually the last track off Reckoning. Let's party.

'Talk About the Passion' by REM

Album: Murmur

Released: 1983
Theme: quintessential 80's

Murmur is REM's debut album and this tune is one of my favorites.

Like most songs, I don't really focus on the lyrics but more on how the melody makes me feel. This one moves me in a romantic way, the video doesn't depict it though.

Oh and the guitarist, Peter Buck, went to my high school.

'Life and How to Live It' by REM

Album: Fables of the Reconstruction
Released: 1985
Theme: alternative rock

This is a gem on Fables. Reminds me of a show at the Fox with my high school girlfriend - legendary evening. As info, you can stop the Peachtree Plaza glass elevator between floors.
