My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Magnificient' by U2

Album: No Line on the Horizon

Released: 2009
Theme: alternative rock

It's time for some more U2. I've posted them before but I don't think I mentioned that they were my favorite band in high school - was even a member of the fan club.

Anyway, this tune has a special feel; there's nothing not to like.

'Zoo Station" by U2

Album: Achtung Baby
Released: 1991
Theme: alternative rock

This song kinda came to me as I was on the computer.

The lyrics were inspired by a surrealistic story about Berlin from World War II that lead vocalist Bono heard, when overnight bombing damaged the zoo and allowed animals to escape and wander around the city's rubble. Although a stretch, this could be tie to July 4th.

'I Will Follow' by U2

Theme: quintessential 80's

'I Will Follow' is the first song on their debut album and their first hit single in the UK. An oldie but goldie.

'New Year's Day' by U2

Album: War
Released: 1983
Theme: quintessential 80's

An obviously appropriate song posting for today, although, you'll find it to be more main stream than most of the posts going forward. I would classify earlier stuff by U2 as more alternative which will be unveiled in good time.
