My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'I Look to You' by Miami Horror

Album: Illumination

Released: 2010
Theme: alternative fresh

This sound is ironic in relation to the city Miami, FLA because I listen and imagine lounging at the Shore Club or Delano pool with martini in hand.

I like the flow of this tune and band.

'Sometimes' by Miami Horror

Album: Illumination

Released: 2010
Theme: alternative fresh

New alternative from Australia that sounds refreshing. The band says its influences include Prince, E.L.O., and New Order which are good influences (read more by clicking on the album name) - it almost sounds like New Order's infamous bass player Peter Hook is a guest musician.

This isn't the best song on the album but probably most popular. More to come from this band when I get around to it.

'Machu Picchu' by The Strokes

Album: Angles

Released: 2011
Theme: alternative rock

Every so often a song comes out of the blue and takes you for a ride. Thanks Jmac.

And another thing, there's something about this tune that reminds me of a children show from the 70's called Villa Alegre (I think) - kinda weird. Funny because I think about that introduction song a lot and the fantasy places it would take me.

'In Between Days' by The Cure

Album: The Head on the Door

Released: 1985
Theme: quintessential 80's

Does it get any more quintessential 80's?

Ohhh, one of my all time favs by Cure. No matter my mood or location, I could listen to this tune, sing along and feel good.

I remember watching the video on MTV as a kid before school but couldn't find tonight.
