My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Add It Up' by Violent Femmes

Album: Violent Femmes
Released: 1983
Theme: alternative punk

Damn - what took me soooo long to post the Femmes. Interestingly, the band was discovered by a member of The Pretenders while playing on a street corner for gratuities in Milwaukee.

I saw this band in high school at 688 club in Atlanta, and it will go down as my favorite concert to date. Great energy.

This song is posted by request of and dedicated to my step-son Nicholas on his birthday.

'The Spice Must Flow' by EON

Album: EON
Released: 1991
Theme: club

It's Thursday night in 1992 dancing in Hell at the Masquerade in Atl. I smell clove cigs, drink beer, and am lost in my private rhythm in a sea of lights . . .

'In The Name of Love' by Thompson Twins

Album: Set
Released: 1982
Theme: quintessential 80's

This one seems to be a secluded song from their 2nd studio album.

You may not readily recognize it, but there's a familiar undercurrent. I wish I was at the show - I am at the show - I am the show.
