My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Home Zone' by Digitalism

Album: Idealism
Released: 2007
Theme: club

Here we go. These German guys are still in rave mode and I love it. There are other mixes but this is my favorite.

Feel yourself get lost in the lights, sound, and smoke.

'A Few Hours After This' by The Cure

Album: Standing on a Beach
Released: 1986
Theme: quintessential 80's

And in true fashion as found on the cassette itself, I post in sequential order the second of two.

I find the song majestic with a touch of magic and romance. I think it comes from another world.

'Exploding Boy' by The Cure

Album: Standing on a Beach
Released: 1986
Theme: quintessential 80's

Standing on a Beach is a compilation album by The Cure which is a great, must have in your collection. As a kid before the invention of CDs, I was lucky enough to own the cassette format. Lucky because on Side 2, the b-sides, there are 2 back to back tunes that are pearls in the rough (I referenced on the 5/6 post).

'Exploding Boy' is number one and we'll see if I can come through with the second . . .

I've been looking for something on YouTube and finally freakin' found.

'Pogo' by Digitalism

Album: Idealism
Released: 2007
Theme: club

This one is more mainstream, if you can call it that, by the band.

Cool video but watch at your own risk - may get dizzy.

Watch on YouTube.

'Getting Closer' by Nitzer Ebb

Album: Showtime
Released: 1990
Theme:
industrial

Showtime is my favorite by the band from which I'll post a lot of good tunes.

I find the video enthralling and didn't think a live version of this track would sound good . . . but see for yourself. These guys rock and I wish I was there.
