My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Sympathy for the Devil' by Laibach

My job for Halloween tomorrow night is to stay back and hand out candy.  The game plan is to keep Laibach and Bauhaus on rotation while I drink beer.  It's all scary . . .

'Everyday Is Halloween' by Ministry

I've already posted this song, of course, but it's apropo to rock it again.  Scary video too as a bonus.

'A Face Like That' by Pet Shop Boys

Could it be true, new stuff by one of UK's most successful duos!  And it has the same magic as the 80's stuff.  I need to look up more tunes off this new album called Elysium.

'Heavy Mood' by Tilly and the Wall

This is a cool one by a group out of Nebraska.  Makes you want to get up and dance - even if it is 6 in the morning . . .  Sounds like they'd be a lot of fun in concert.

'Burgers Murder' by The Necromantics

Check out this tune by Nick's band.  I've heard this one develop for awhile and it's in its prime.  Funky rhythm and fresh voice.

'Don't You Forget About Me' by Simple Minds

Can't believe I haven't posted this yet. Thought I did but can't find . . .

Anyway, this is classic 80's stuff with a hint of mystery and romanticism. I remember seeing the movie like it was yesterday and this song encapsulates the feelings very well.

'The Reeling' by Passion Pit

Here's another one by the Mass. band.

It has a slightly different sound than 'Little Secrets (Manners)' which was posted previously. I think these 2 songs start to paint a picture of the band, and I look forward to more.

And you'll like the crazy vid.

'Promised You a Miracle' by Simple Minds

This is an often overlooked and underrated tune by the British band Simple Minds. Many people don't even know who sings it. Now you do. And now you can enjoy.

'The Chauffeur' by Duran Duran

A very sensual song portrayed by an equally sensual video. For mature audiences.

'Little Secrets' by Passion Pit

Interesting sound from this band from Mass. I'll have to post more in due time. Thanks Jmac for the introduction.

'Clean' by Depeche Mode

There are other versions of this song that are more kickin' but I like the video.

I like the high cut bathing suit at the beginning along with her 'bob' hair cut. And the 'film watching' scenes bring back good memories of youth.

'I Go Crazy' by Flesh for Lulu

This is probably the most popular song by this London band (it's amazing how much great music came and comes out of UK).

Anyway, I find this song somewhat romantic in an innocent kind of way. That sounds weird but I'm weird.

'Elephant Rhythm' by Sleigh Bells

Love the big beat here and would love to see her . . . I mean 'them' in concert. Thanks Eli for the push on Sleigh Bells.

'Comeback Kid' by Sleigh Bells

Love this sound by a duo from NY off their new album called Reign of Terror. The band reminds me of another band but I can't place it.

Anyway, enjoy the enticing video.

'My Time' by Mackintosh Braun

Love the easy flow of this tune by a new band from Portland. Very dreamy but not sleepy - perfect for a rainy, lazy Sunday by the fire.

'Take Em Up' by Shit Robot

Interesting name for this band . . . it looks like a pseudonym for an Irish electronic DJ (read more). Anyway, I like the tune and so should you.

'Not in Love' by Chrystal Castles

Looks like a Robert, sounds like a Robert, it must be a Robert Smith - courtesy of Jmac. Hey, this sounds a bit like The Cure . . .

'Mr. Gnome' by House of Circles

Very funky sound by this Melbourne band. It's got big beat and we need more big beat, baby.
