My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Higher State of Consciousness' by Josh Wink

Album: Higher State of Consciousness
Released: 1995
Theme: techno

Damn, everything this guy does I like. I first heard the song at a club in South Beach and immediately asked the DJ about. The next day I bought.

I saw Josh once at the Compound in Atlanta and it was very intense - almost like the video but not that good . . . by the way, the video is probably better suited for mature audiences.

'Le Disko' by Shiny Toy Guns

Album: We Are Pilots
Released: 2006
Theme: dance

Great song off their debut album. Band's from Oklahoma but sound they're from LA.

Enjoy the fresh alternative stuff and sexy video. I'm new to the band, let me know if there are some other good tunes. Oh, and be on the look out for a new Shiny Toy Guns album tentatively named "III" in the Spring or Summer of 2010.

'Voices Carry' by 'Til Tuesday

Album: Voices Carry
Released: 1985
Theme: dreamy

A slow, melodic song that makes me feel warm. I like the video too - oddly enough, I don't recall seeing a lot on MTV.

The only other song I know by the band is 'What About Love'. Although, Aimee Mann looks cute in the video, I probably won't post . . . unless of course she were to ask me.

'Love Action' by Human League

Album: Love and Dancing

Released: 1983
Theme: quintessential 80's

What a great album name and what a great song - an underrated one from this band.

As I post more and more songs, I realize what music has given me. This tune needs to be in the thick of things in terms of influence on actions.
