My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

Damn, what took me so long to post The Cult??

'Fire Woman' comes off their 4th studio album. It is not my favorite, but I like the way it starts.

'Never Let Me Down' by Depeche Mode

Album: Music for the Masses
Released: 1987
Theme: quintessential 80's

Oh, a classic that has a driving, powerful beat. I think it's a good one to post on Thursday to usher in the weekend.

This is cool video which actually depicts the song's rhythm and heart.

'Route 66' by Depeche Mode

Album: Music for the Masses
Released: 1987
Theme: quintessential 80's

Now time for some funky DM. This B-Side is a cover of the standard "Route 66", named after the highway of the same name. The music for the cover is similar, sometimes identical to "Behind the Wheel" which is off Music for the Masses.

There are several mixes and the video resembles my favorite.

'Just Can't Get Enough' by Depeche Mode

Album: Speak & Spell
Released: 1981
Theme: quintessential 80's

Let's get back to basics with DM's debut studio album.

This song is light and fun and think I dedicated it to my high school girlfriend back in the day. Notice how young the band looks in the vid.
