My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Ol Fashion Nightmare' by Matt & Kim

Album: Grand
Released: 2009
Theme: alternative funk

Cool stuff from a new duo out of NYC. I knew I liked this song and group after the first 5 seconds. Listen to loud and audaciously.

More to come on SoDA and hopefully more to come from this band.

Dedicated to CJ for enlightening me.

'Zoo Station" by U2

Album: Achtung Baby
Released: 1991
Theme: alternative rock

This song kinda came to me as I was on the computer.

The lyrics were inspired by a surrealistic story about Berlin from World War II that lead vocalist Bono heard, when overnight bombing damaged the zoo and allowed animals to escape and wander around the city's rubble. Although a stretch, this could be tie to July 4th.
