My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Obsession" by Animotion

Album: Animotion
Released: 1984
Theme: dance

For what it's worth, this tune would rank at the top of my favorite 80's - especially at a party. Sometimes when I listen, I imagine being at a runway fashion show in Paris.

Enjoy the cheesy video though.

This one will sound more familiar and is a great song. I know which one I like the best . . .

Dedicated to sister.

'Situation' by Yaz

Album: Upstairs at Eric's (CD Version)
Released: 1982
Theme: dance

This is good kickin' tune for Hump day by a band whose original name was Yazoo. They renamed to Yaz for the US market because the name was already in use by a small American rock band.

The version in the video is a funky, club mix. I will post the original tomorrow and see which one you like better.

'No One Sleeps When I'm Awake' by The Sounds

Album: Crossing The Rubicon
Released: 2009
Theme: new wave

I was turned onto to this band by some cool people at work. The Sounds formed in 1999 in Sweden and I'm glad they stuck around because of their retro feel. I'm reminded a little of Missing Persons when looking at and listening to.

They seem like they'd be very fun to see live - other than checking out the lead singer . . .
