My formative years were spent in the 80's with foundational bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Jane's Addiction. Even though the 80's was the pioneer decade for the alternative genre, this music transcended into the 90's and to some cool tunes today which could be classified as alternative. Hopefully, this site will bring back some good memories and introduce some things you haven't heard before.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

'Ahead' by Wire

Album: The Ideal Copy
Released: 1987
Theme: deep alternative

'Ahead' captures the essence of this site. It's rhythmic, smooth and enigmatic. This one rates as one of my all time 80's favorites.

  1. Hi Doug, I have this album (vinyl) and definitely agree with your sentiment. Wire was a bit quirky but it's hard to not like this one (hey, and "it's got a good beat and i can dance to it"). I'm pretty sure I recall hearing this at the post-punk dance clubs in the 80's (Jeff?)....
